Are you ready for Halloween? Are you safe? Chris Medaglia has been with the Tolleson Police Department for eight years. He likes helping people and working as a school resource officer. “Working with kids is very rewarding,” says Medaglia.

Medaglia has some important Safety tips:

• Trick or Treat in a known area.

• Stay on the sidewalks.

• Stay away from “Stranger Danger.”

• Check your candy before you eat it.

• Bring a light and cell phone.

 The RMS Titanic was a British passenger ship that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg. I have been interested in this famous ship and wanted to know more.

The Titanic commander was Captain Edward Smith. He went down with one of the largest ships of that time. According to Wikipedia, the Titanic carried some of the wealthiest people in the world. The ship also carried hundreds of emigrants from Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia and elsewhere throughout Europe, who were seeking a new life in the States.

 Jane Camp is a retired teacher and the founder of Reading2paws. She goes to schools and gives kids free books and stuffed animals. Students read aloud to their stuffed animal every day.

Camp says, “Books were special to me and I loved to read. When I retired, I wanted to do something for kids. I volunteered and found out that many kids had no books at home. I started my charity. Some people gave me books to give out, others purchased books for me and some donated money to help.”

 It’s coming soon! Lots of weather change, wind, rain, flooding and dust storms are coming our way. It’s almost time for monsoon in Arizona.

Meteorologist Royal Norman grew up liking weather. “My family and I would go to the garage and watch the weather,” he says.

During the monsoon, our rain pattern changes and monsoons come from the south according to Norman. “There are 14 different monsoons in the world. There is a famous one in India,” says Norman.

 Imagine taking your dog to the Desert Botanical Garden. I got to take mine because of a special event at the Desert Botanical Garden.

Susan Rubin is the special event coordinator for Desert Botanical Garden. The Desert Botanical was founded by Gustov Stark and a woman named Gertrude. According to Rubin, there are many botanical gardens all over the world. Some states include: Hawaii, Georgia, New York and there are even ones in Tucson and Globe, here in Arizona.

 Just think about being in space…. Imagine being in the rocket ship and the space shuttle. Imagine eating or sleeping in space. The Arizona Science Center has an Astronaut Exhibit where you can learn and do a physical interactive part of the exhibit.

Sari Custer, Chief Science and Curiosity Officer with the Arizona Science Center, says the whole exhibit is a hands-on experience. Custer has a personal background in science. She loves seeing and helping people at the Center. Custer has been with the Arizona Science Center for 11 years.

 Imagine seeing flying jets and old planes turning in the air.

Christa Lancaster, Recreation Superintendent for the City of Buckeye, has recently taken over the air show. Lancaster used to only do the Arizona SciTech Festival and aviation related part of the show. “I brought in a plane that could be painted on. It stayed on that way until the next stop at the air show and they would do it all over again.”

 Anytime you step out the door, you are in weather. There is always weather.

Royal Norman is the Chief Meteorologist with 3TV in Phoenix. Norman has been interested in weather since he was 10, or maybe even younger. “My aunt gave me a weather set for my birthday which is in February. I lived in Chicago. My whole family watched the, weather,” he says. In Chicago, Norman was able to tromp through the snow.

 The Lunar New Year is a Chinese Tradition. It is also known as the Chinese New Year. It is the new year of the Chinese Calendar.

The Lunar New Year begins on Feb. 12, 2021, and it is the year of Ox. The animals are according to the year of your birth. I am a Rabbit. The animals are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
