On Nov. 15, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at Conchos Elementary Library to kickoff “Patrick’s Corner.” 

Patrick’s Corner is an area in the library that consists of 1,700 books and furniture donated by the Patrick Peterson Foundation in conjunction with Scholastic Inc. and Papa John’s Pizza.

A Scholastic Book Fair was also held during the celebration and a $7 coupon was donated by the foundation for each student in the school to select a book for their own.

Two famous ex-Wildcat basketball players, Nick Johnson and Kaleb "Zeus" Tarczewski attended the Nick Johnson Basketball Camp at Sal Pointe High School in Tucson, Ariz. 

Johnson and Tarczewski only played together briefly when their careers overlapped in 2012. At that time, Johnson was a senior and Tarczewski was just starting his basketball career at the University of Arizona.

In October, I got to meet the Voice of the Wildcats, Brian Jeffries. I asked him a lot about the team and what it’s like to be the Voice of the Wildcats. I also asked him about his favorite sport and what it was like to go to his first national championship.

He says it has always been his dream to be the Voice of the Wildcats and that it’s kind of challenging to travel with the team. In fact, he actually doesn’t get to see the team that much. He says he loves all sports and that it was the greatest feeling to go to his first national championship.

“Being able to put a smile on someone’s face and brighten their day, just by giving them a hug and taking a picture,” is what the one and only Wilbur the Wildcat says is the best part of being Wilbur. The University of Arizona’s mascot will be celebrating his 56th birthday this year.

Wilbur says, “After being chosen, we have three-times-a-week weight training sessions, cardio sessions and one-armed push-up training. I also had to learn all of Wilbur’s moves, plus practicing with Wilma.”

The Disney On Ice show, Worlds of Enchantment, came to Tucson in October. It was very enchanting indeed because it had classics like Cars, The Little Mermaid, Toy Story and more. I had the opportunity to attend a media event to help kick

off the first show! A group of local Tucson elementary kids were there to attend a reading from the book Cars, take pictures and talk to two ice skaters from the show followed by a pizza party. This got the kids so excited and pumped to see the show!

Some of you might not know who Alex Naddour is, but our troop from Queen Creek does. Naddour lives in Queen Creek just like us.

     We were in the middle of earning our "Staying Fit" badge when we heard that Naddour was going to be at the Queen Creek Library before he left for the Olympic Games in Rio. We followed him through the Olympics. He just happened to win a bronze medal on the pommel horse!

Sean Miller, UofA men’s head basketball coach, gave a presentation about the upcoming 2016-2017 team on Aug. 27. It was during a private reception and lunch for valued partners of Hughes Federal Credit Union. Miller spoke about his new recruits and the upcoming schedule.

College football is starting soon! For 2015-16, the National Championship Game was held in Phoenix. Earlier this year I took a trip with my mom, dad and brother, Chase, to the Phoenix Convention Center to be a part of Playoff Fan Central. The Playoff Fan Central is a multi-day fan festival that gives lots of kids an opportunity to experience the College Football Playoff National Championship. There were bands, cheerleaders, interactive photo booths and sports games. My brother and I got to play at different games.

On June 18 at the Tucson Convention Center, the Arizona Coyotes announced their new American Hockey League afflliate will be called the Tucson Roadrunners!

If the Roadrunner name sounds familiar, maybe it’s because the Phoenix Roadrunners were the name of Arizona’s rst professional sports team in 1967.
