Today, we use this date to celebrate our rich TucSonorense culture and its many inhabitants. Did you know the name Tucson originates from the native O’odham word “s -cuk ṣon” which means “at the base of the black hill”?

Thirty-five years ago, my mom, Vanessa, attended Arizona Girls State. She talked about her memories of staying in the dorms at the UofA, learning about government in an engaging practical way and making friends that she still keeps in touch with today. It was truly a memorable opportunity that she was excited for me to experience.
