“We are thrilled to open the CSM Martin R. "Gunny" Barreras Memorial Park to the public once again," said Ward 5 Council Member Richard Fimbres. “I want to thank all the neighbors, Sunnyside High School, the Sunnyside School District, and the stakeholders who took part in this process. This park is a tribute to CSM Martin R. "Gunny" Barreras' legacy and will provide a safe and enjoyable space for residents, and the community, to gather and engage in all of the outdoor activities and enjoy all the wonderful amenities the park will have to offer."
The City of Tucson is proud to re-dedicate this park to the memory of CSM Martin R. "Gunny" Barreras, a true hero who served his country and community with distinction. The grand opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 3, from 10-11:30 a.m., and will feature speeches from City officials, special guests, and members of the community. Attendees will also enjoy food and drinks and have the opportunity to explore the new amenities and enjoy the park's facilities. Tucson Parks and Recreation’s “Ready, Set, Rec!” mobile recreation van will be there with lots of fun and games for the whole family.
