This season’s first Living History Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 am to 2 pm.  This month, Living History Day will also focus on the Spanish Old World cultural influences and traditions of All Soul’s Day, and how that developed into the New World traditions for Día de los Muertos. Presidio gente (people) will be working on pieces for altars that will honor their departed family members as they might have done long ago. Visitors will also learn about foods eaten in Spain vs. those of Mexico.  They will create and sample some of the decorations and foods that go into creating ofrendas (altars). Activities may include making paper flowers, sugar skulls or Calavera masks. Samplings of champurrado and Pan de Muertos will also be available.

In addition to themed activities, other opportunities for visitors include:

***interactive demonstrations of children’s games and weaving

***soldiers practicing their drills 

***watching and learning how the soldiers fire their muskets

***pumping the bellows of the blacksmith’s forge

***candle making
