Extremely colorful, fun, rainbow, interesting, vibrant and splash of color! These are the words I’m using to describe the Crayola Experience in Chandler.

When I first entered through the door, a staff member gave me a bag with two silver tokens inside. The first thing I did was a coloring page of a police officer. There were tons of crayons farther than the eye could see. All those different colors reminded me of a gigantic rainbow.

Justin Willman and his Magic for Humans show performed at The Fox Theatre in downtown Tucson on May 21. The show opened with a magic trick involving wine bottles, then it jumped to videos. The first one was of him getting to the show to wow us with his magic, the second one was of him trying to teach his child how to do magic like him, except it went very wrong. His son hilariously started sharing some of his dad’s magic-making secrets!

Have you ever been to the Heard Museum? There are thousands of items on display there.

Marcus Monenerkit, Director of Community Engagement for the Heard Museum, had an interest in different cultures and diversity. “My dad traveled a lot and sent us postcards. When I got older, I still had the love. My father was a Comanche and my mother kept me connected with my father’s side. My grandmother spoke fluent Comanche.” Monenerkit started working at the Heard Museum in 1998.

Recently I went to the Tucson Museum of Art (TMA) with a friend. Going to TMA was fun and they had lots of interesting pieces. One of my favorites was a piece called “Interstellar.” It is a cool, mind illusion painting of a person in a poncho. It has a rainbow color pallet and lots of curved lines that makes it look almost like it’s moving. “Interstellar” is only one interesting piece among other cool and colorful pieces in the TMA exhibits. It was created by Alia Ali. Ali is a multi-media artist who has been to 67 countries! “Interstellar” has been on display since October 2021.

From July 30 through Aug. 10, the Arizona Cardinals had their 2022 open practices. I had the opportunity to be there to interview the team’s president, cheerleaders and fans. I also met Big Red, their mascot, and enjoyed The Kids Interactive Zone.

It was exciting to see the gigantic State Farm stadium from the freeway. Inside was even better...I received a Cardinals flag, a Cardinals key holder and a State Farm towel. The concierge shared stickers with me, and the cheerleaders gave me a poster.

On July 21, the Arizona Chief Science Officer program began its summer Leadership Training Institute (LTI) at the University of Advancing Technology. CSOs are 6th–12th grade student ambassadors for STEM who focus on raising awareness for STEM in their community and school. It was started in Arizona eight years ago as an idea to get kids at the table with adults who were having conversations about STEM. The program has grown to multiple states across the nation and even to other countries including Mexico, Kenya and Kuwait.

Did you know that some of your favorite things came about by accident? A special kind of spring in a battleship engine became the Slinky. Play-Doh, created to clean wallpaper, evolved into a toy. Another famous but accidental invention is the popsicle!
