In Japan, scientists and engineers have worked together to create the maglev train. Maglev means magnetic levitation. Unlike other trains, this train does not have any wheels, but instead runs with magnets.

Imagine driving to work, and you’re going to be late because of all the traffic. The maglev train was built for this purpose. This train makes a faster, easier trip for anybody in a hurry. It does not pollute the environment as other trains do.

 Who is your favorite superhero? Superman, Batgirl or even Spider-Man? Imagine what it would be like to dress up as your favorite superhero and help others! Christina Fay, President of Justice League Arizona, does just that!

 

 “I’ve been a fan of DC Comics since I was a little girl. I dressed up as Supergirl for Comic-Con where I was recruited,” she says. Fay is 23 and got involved in the Justice League five years ago. This is her first year as president. Fay says that she is the first female president.

 Dr. Jane Goodall is a world famous British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and U.N. Messenger of Peace. She is known for her long-term observation and research on chimpanzees.

At the age of 26, Goodall bravely traveled from England to Tanzania with nothing more than a notebook and a pair of binoculars. With unyielding patience and optimism, she won the trust of the chimpanzee and managed to open a window into their lives.

 As summer is rolling around, so are some of fans’ favorite conventions like Phoenix Fan Fusion, San Diego Comic-Con, Vidcon and MegaMania. Phoenix Fan Fusion is May 23–26 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

Cons and conventions are great experiences for those in fandoms. A fandom is generally a large group of people who post or support fan content made for things like TV shows, movies, books, YouTubers or comics. It’s obviously a great time for fandom dwellers.

Lisa McMann was able to share some thoughts about her life as an author, her work ethic, and what influenced her to become a writer in a recent phone interview. Then in March, she was in town for the Tucson Festival of Books. She came to meet with fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade classes at my school.

Located in Tres Rios Wetlands, next to the ISM Raceway, March 2–3, theTres Rios Nature Festival was a place to destroy boredom. A nice sunny day with a cool breeze and lots of fun made it a perfect weekend. The festival had many activities for all ages—archery, fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing, zip lining, hands-on and hands-off exhibits, food, drinks, live music andmore!

 There were vintage World War II aircraft twirling through the Tucson skies, modern-day jets that can travel faster than the speed of sound, and parachutists taking death-defying leaps out of airplanes—the 2019 Davis-Monthan Air Show had it all!

On March 23 and 24, Davis- Monthan AFB opened its gates to the public for Thunder & Lightning Over Arizona, its biannual air show. Pleasant temperatures and sunny skies made the perfect conditions for both air show performers and visitors.
