We have participated in the SARSEF Regional Science and Engineering Fair for six years! Each year we develop a project that is of interest to us.
This year we were inspired to create something that students could use to help them focus in the classroom. We developed the Pidget. This project combined a pencil with a fidget device. We thought this would be helpful because we all use pencils or pens in the classroom, and often our classmates have fidgets that they use to help them focus. We decided we would combine the two to help students focus while working on their classwork. The name came from a combination of a pencil and a fidget.
We used our 3-D printer to create a sleeve that fit over a pencil to provide a sturdy way to place a fidget onto the pencil. We had to use our coding skills and tried multiple designs until we found several ideas that we tested to see what people liked best.
Our project was submitted electronically, so we did all of our work in Google Slides, too. We were very excited when our project won a First Place Grand Award!
We recommend that you participate in the SARSEF Regional Science and Engineering Fair next year to explore ideas that you want to learn more about and research.
