At Sunrise, the teachers are offering Chinese immersion. I think it is fun to learn a new language!
The teachers do an excellent job teaching. Sunrise is one of the many schools that have Chinese in the Tucson area. Sunrise also offers Spanish.
Last year the second grade immersion took a field trip to the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center. Every year, starting in first grade, the immersion classes take a field trip to the cultural center to perform a Chinese song.
There is an amazing camp in Tucson for girls going into 5th, 6th, and 7th grades. It is called the Colors of Nature Academy, and it teaches girls science through art. The camp is organized by researchers from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson, and the University of Washington Bothell. The camp lasts two weeks and is actually a study funded by the National Science Foundation. The Colors of Nature Academy is held at the University of Arizona campus. There is no cost to attend the camp, but girls must apply.
I loved the book “My Favorite Pets by Gus W. for Ms. Smolinski’s Class” by Jeanne Birdsall. It’s all about Gus, who lives on a farm with 17 sheep. The sheep are like his best friends, but they don’t talk and even though he has tried, Gus can’t get them to climb a tree, or ride a skateboard. Gus does fun things with the sheep like using one as an umbrella and he tries to get his little brother involved, but he doesn’t like it and cries a lot.
Can you read a book to a young child, plant a tree, paint a wall?
If you can, then you can be a VOLUNTEER. A volunteer is a person who gives time freely to do tasks that help individual people or whole communities. A volunteer can make a huge difference in the life or lives of people in need. A volunteer can be a child or an adult. A volunteer can help individually or in a team setting, such as a church group, a scout group or a company group.
It’s going to get a little weird and wild! Star vs. the Forces of Evil is coming back to Disney XD July 11! Created by Daron Nefcy, the show aired on Disney XD on March 30, 2015. Nefcy created Star Butterfly, the main female of the show, to be like Sailor Moon, a magical girl. She also created Marco Diaz, the main male, to be obsessed with karate and Dragon Ball Z. The two live in the same household. Star is a foreign exchange student, and she and Marco were enemies at first, but now are best friends. Marco’s parents took in Star when she came to Earth from Mewni.
Captain America: Civil War was a great movie. I loved it—it was awesome.
I liked that lots of Marvel heroes joined in and helped the teams. I really didn’t know why they were fighting. There was no scary stuff in it, to me. I loved it. I don’t think any part of it was boring.
It is rated PG-13 because of some violence, language and rude humor.
On June 18 at the Tucson Convention Center, the Arizona Coyotes announced their new American Hockey League afflliate will be called the Tucson Roadrunners!
If the Roadrunner name sounds familiar, maybe it’s because the Phoenix Roadrunners were the name of Arizona’s rst professional sports team in 1967.
