There is a place where teachers can find great resources and companies can make donations, a place dedicated to helping our community by serving educators and students and by helping the environment. It’s called Treasures 4 Teachers.
On my last trip to the Phoenix Zoo, I visited the new and exciting exhibit Predator Passage. Predator Passage has over five different animal species including African lions, a Fennic fox, and Ruppel’s griffon vultures.
You can get a birdseye view of these stunning animals from the 20-foot Predator Passage Tower or walk along the path to get up close and personal.
I recently read “Belly Up.” It is about a 12-year-old boy named Teddy Fitzroy who is living in America’s newest theme park, FunJungle (The name of the book series). Soon, Henry Hippo, the park’s mascot, turns up dead, and Teddy suspects somebody murdered him. Was it the owner? The clown? Even the chief of security could’ve done it.
The author of this misleading mystery is Stuart Gibbs. Gibbs is also the author of “Spy School” and “Poached.” “Belly Up” consists of 294 pictureless pages and I enjoyed every single one of them. I recommend this book for ages 10 and up.
Do you like the Mo Willems’ book “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus”? Have you read “The Elephant and Piggie” book series? If so, you should visit the Children’s Museum of Phoenix where there is an exhibit hosted by the Pigeon. There are so many games and activities to enjoy with many of Willems’ books characters.
In 2018, Boy Scouts of America made the historic decision to change its name to Scouts BSA, and allow girls to join troops. According to the Boy Scouts website, since then over 5,000 young ladies have earned Eagle Scout rank, and over 75% of those females reported that scouting had a very positive effect on their abilities to set and achieve goals.
Are comics only for nerds? If you said yes, think again! I went to the Tucson Comic-Con at the Tucson Convention Center over Labor Day weekend and learned there’s something for everyone. I saw lots of comics and artwork for sale, some famous people, and a bunch of attendees.
The twelfth time’s a charm. Astronaut José Hernández was rejected by NASA a whopping 11 times before finally being accepted and traveling on the space shuttle Discovery.
The movie “A Million Miles Away” is an inspirational tale following his journey to become the first Mexican-American astronaut. Born the son of a migrant farmer, he never gave up on his dream to reach the stars.
Since water is scarce in Arizona, drought is a natural occurrence. In fact, Arizona has been in a drought of some form since 1994. Not surprisingly, this affects the amount of water available to Arizona citizens. Because of that, cities are creating multi-tier water conservation plans to ensure we have enough water for years to come.
Since we live in the desert, it is evident that water is scarce. When rain falls, Phoenicians are known to run outside and rejoice. But when lakes are low, citizens begin to worry because water is necessary for life.
