People celebrate by joining clean-ups, planting trees and flowers, and supporting environmental charities. You can help too! Instead of throwing things away, find creative ways to reuse them. Turn an old water bottle into a cup holder by cutting off the top and decorating it. Composting food scraps is another great way to recycle—just bury a wire trash basket in the ground, add scraps, and watch your garden grow!

We had special guests come to my 5th grade class at Immaculate Heart School—Gail Dent and Ann Banwell, judges for the Tucson Festival of Books Young Authors contest sponsored by Altrusa International of Tucson. They taught us what makes a story stand out and win the Young Authors contest.
